Walnut Arm Chair by Ruppel Design
Our Signature Chairs

Our Mission
It is our aim through the art of furniture making to share the immediacy of wood: to make use of it as both a beautiful natural material and as a building medium.  We want our pieces to be well designed, without sacrificing any of the function that a piece of furniture should have.

To us, design in wood means the blending of wood colors, patterns, surfaces, forms, repetition, and rhythms into an interesting,
sometimes even thought-provoking piece.

Dedication to Craft
Furniture makers have worked for centuries to refine their craft.  Each craftsman learning from the traditional techniques of their forefathers.  In our now global economy, the fine art of furniture making has seen a dramatic decline in new artisans to carry on the craft of  quality furniture.

We feel that each piece that we make must honor the craftsman who developed the techniques we use every day.  We hand select each piece of sustainably harvested hardwood lumber, to ensure strength and quality of our furniture and our forests.

Our furniture is built using traditional mortise and tenon joinery.  This technique allows us to confidently offer a guarantee for the lifetime of the original owner.

Finish
All furniture finished with Ruppel Design's unique hand-rubbed oil formulation, blended to enhance the depth and richness of natural wood while offering a durable water and stain resistant finish.

Natural Patina

We use no stains or dyes on our furniture. We prefer to allow the wood naturally darken over time.  The natural color in the wood reacts with the sun to create a color and depth unatainable with unatural coloring techniques.

Hardwood Forest

Generations of Craftsmanship

The Ruppel Design Group, founded in 1988, consists of the father/son team of Terry and Ross Ruppel.

To the Ruppels, designing and building is a family tradition. Their work focuses on the beauty of select native hardwoods and traditional joinery and finishing techniques. The patina and character of each wood are highlighted whenever possible, and each piece is finished by hand-rubbing with a unique oil mixture developed over time.

The pieces are well designed without sacrificing any functionality. To the Ruppel Design Group, a perfectly designed piece means the blending of wood colors, patterns, surfaces, forms, repetition, and rhythms into an interesting and thought-provoking piece.
